Theatre - Toad on the Wolds (A Family Christmas Show)
Toad has once again landed himself in jail for his exploits. He cannot resist feeding his many habits and expensive hobbies and getting himself into trouble. Meanwhile, the Weasels have made the most of his absence by taking over Toad Hall!
Whilst in Jail, Toad receives a letter from his Uncle Croaker in East Yorkshire, who, in his twilight years, wishes to discuss the inheritance of his East Yorkshire home, Toad Manor. Not only that, but to Toad’s surprise and delight his uncle tells him about his hoard of treasure, discovered many years ago and hidden away in a secret location. However, nothing is ever straightforward for Toad and his friends, Mole, Ratty and Badger. They soon discover that the Wolds Council planning officer, Wesley Weasel, has slapped a compulsory purchase order on Toad Manor because of its dilapidated state. Toad and his friends face a race against time as they try to find the treasure and prove that they have the funds to restore the house before the deadline of New Years Eve to stave off the Council order!
The scene is set for an adventure! A road trip to the East Yorkshire Wolds and a visit to Toad Manor is followed by a treasure hunt, complete with booby traps, ghosts and an epic battle to beat the Weasels before the New Years eve fireworks go off!
Inspired by Kenneth Grahame’s ‘Wind in the Willows’, this family Christmas Production, written by Gordon Meredith and directed by Richard Avery will delight East Riding Theatre’s audiences throughout December and launch us into the New Year with a bang! ‘Poop Poop!’
Ron Simpson - The Reviews Hub:
"Gordon Meredith was tasked with developing a new story, and Toad on the Wolds is a neat combination of Kenneth Grahame’s characters with East Riding’s home base."
