Family Theatre - The Lion, The Unicorn & Me (Adapted from the Christmas story by Jeanette Winterson)
In this beautifully evocative retelling of the story of the very first Christmas, the humble Donkey is chosen out of all the other animals, including the kingly Lion and the proud Unicorn.
His task is to carry Mary to the town of Bethlehem where she will give birth to the baby Jesus in a stable. As his journey unfolds, he is touched by the magic and mystery of the Nativity.
This is a beautiful adaptation by Shift Key Theatre of the story written by Jeanette Winterson, and was performed in St Mary’s Church, Beverley as part of their Christmas celebrations for 2024. It enabled locals, visitors and church goers alike to connect with the Christmas story in a fun and engaging way.
There were also refreshments after the performance along with activities for children and families, all included in the ticket price.
Head of History - St Nicholas Primary School:
“I’d just like to say another thank you for inviting us to your performance of The Lion, The Unicorn and Me. The children were completely captivated by the whole experience from hearing the story and being welcomed into the nave and then the altar. Seeing our children react to the actors as though they were rock stars was the icing on the cake. As a staff, we appreciated the humour which is much needed in our job! Thank you for giving us such a magical and memorable visit.”.
