Wilberforce Speaks:

Reflecting on the fight for the abolition of the transatlantic Slave Trade, this poignant intervention used live performance based on real contemporary accounts, song & music associated with campaign and resistance, to take the visitors on a unique journey through the birth place of one of the world's most famous freedom fighters, William Wilberforce.

International Hanse Day:

This event was a celebration of Hull’s trading past, and an opportunity for visitors to learn about Hull’s position as a significant medieval trading port. Hull’s historic High Street was transformed into a medieval marketplace, complete with street dressing, musicians, jesters, authentic craftspeople, and a cast of characters drawn from real Hull history.

Hull Museum's Magic of Christmas:

This was performed as part of Hull Museum’s Magic of Christmas event over a number of years. It is a wonderful free to attend Christmas celebration with lots of different activities taking place as part of the event including walkabout street theatre with Dickensian characters, a fancy dress competition, face painting, Christmas elves and stalls in the museum gardens.

Naomi Broadhead - Heritage Learning Project Assistant:

“I wanted to say a huge thank-you for making the Wilberforce House speaks event a great success. I believe it's the first of its kind at Wilberforce House dealing with such a sensitive subject and the feedback both verbal & written was extremely positive.

Throughout the experience our visitors were incredibly absorbed, moved & reflective, which was our aim. They left with a clear message. The fight still continues....

When you work on something for a long time period, 3 months on this one it's sometimes hard to see it for what it is until the actual day. Then it all comes together & you see this amazing piece of work & hear the feedback from our visitors it's very rewarding, so well done again. You are fabulous!"

Rebecca Nelson - Assistant Curator of Projects:

"The event was the first of its kind at the museum, and we got fantastic feedback and it was amazing to see the emotions played out on our audiences faces. I think we got the balance between the stories absolutely right and the music and acting really brought these to life."
