Folk Theatre - Fallen Leaves (In commemoration of the centenary of the end of the Great War )

In the autumn of 1914 In the autumn of 1914 Kaiser Wilhelm promised the German troops that “you will be home before the leaves fall from the trees”. Over four years later as the leaves were falling, and over 18 million humans had fallen, the war finally ended.

Fallen Leaves, (commissioned by Other Lives Productions), took place as the leaves fell exactly one hundred years later in commemoration of the close of World War One. It toured Yorkshire and beyond from late October 2018 and the final performance took place on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, one hundred years to the day.

The play took the audience through a range of emotions, adding both tears and laughter to the standing ovations received. Diligent research enabled a piece of theatre to be created that referenced real people who lived at the time in Beverley and the East Riding. But ultimately the cavalcade of sketches, songs, anecdotes and letters contributed to an uplifting and heart warming production.

Audience member:

“Fallen Leaves, which commemorated the end of WW1, was a masterpiece of research, script writing, performance and stage presentation with sold out audiences giving standing ovations"
