Script Writing
Whether you are creating a museum gallery, a piece of theatre, or a film, they are all about telling stories. Very often, these stories reveal details about people—real or imagined—their lives, and the things they did or do through a structured narrative.
Shift Key Theatre understands how to craft a narrative to meet key learning outcomes or objectives, ensuring that the writing achieves its purpose.
This approach works equally well for writing family shows, comedies, or immersive theatre, as it does for creating scripts that interpret history.

Key messages
One of the essential factors of interpreting history and making it relatable and memorable is to work to guiding principles of key messages and learning outcomes.
We interpret history through various media, but all with the intention of helping people to learn about the past and to be able to understand why things are the way they are today.
To do this, we make stories relatable and fun, and they become memorable and thought provoking. This doesn’t happen by accident, it is an intended outcome, brought about by carefully developed narratives woven around a set of key messages and outcomes.
We apply 'generic learning outcomes' to our narratives to ensure that your key messages are communicated through our performances.

Museums & Archives
We have collaborated with museums, archives, and galleries on numerous projects, and are well-versed in how to get the most of collections and people stories.
Oral testimony can be a wonderful resource for our projects and we are experienced in both conducting interviews as well as drawing out the stories contained within
Oral testimony provides first-hand, eyewitness accounts of real events and processes that provide invaluable primary source research material. Additionally, using transcriptions verbatim can give the project an authentic and accurate sense of voice.
Our experience in these areas also means that we can include object handling as part of our character presentation.
